CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR SPRING 2015
The PAVO Training Camps have been highly successful in increasing the quality and quantity of the officials' cadre. To help make these camps more accessible to our membership, there are several scholarships available. Any PAVO member in good standing may apply. Scholarship award winners will be notified by April 30, 2015.
Lewis Development Scholarship for Advanced Referee Training Camp ($285)
Long-time volleyball referee, trainer, mentor, and outstanding contributor to volleyball officiating, Crystal Lewis provides a scholarship worth the full amount of an Advanced Referee Training Camp application ($285). (Additional expenses are covered by the camp applicant). Her intent is to make available some of the opportunities open to her due to her long involvement in volleyball officiating. She expects the scholarship recipient to "Pay it Forward" to help another worthy volleyball official realize some of the great opportunities and experiences of volleyball officiating.
Matt Manliguis Scholarship for Referee Training Camp (2 at $250)
After losing a dear referee/line judge friend, Matt Kalani Manliguis, to cancer on December 15, 2007, a group of officials from Connecticut decided to memorialize their friend with a camp scholarship. Matt, the Hawaiian warrior, or ikaika, fought his two and a half year battle with strength, courage, dignity and determination. Each year the Matt Manliguis Camp Scholarship in the of $250 is awarded to a deserving official attending a Referee Training Camp. Any PAVO member in good standing is eligible to apply.
USA Volleyball Foundation ($300)
For several years, the USA Volleyball Foundation has provided funds to assist a deserving official gain experience and training to further their officiating career. The USAV Foundation supports a wide variety of volleyball programs, including officiating, with a goal of growing the sport of volleyball by expanding existing programs. Their support of the PAVO camp program is appreciated!
Professional Association of Volleyball Officials Scholarship (2 at $250 each)
PAVO offers two scholarships to any two members in good standing to attend any of the training camps.
Scholarship Application Process:
Any PAVO member in good standing may apply for a PAVO scholarship. Click here for application. Submit the following to Suzanne Dodd, Camp Director:
- Completed scholarship application
- Letter of interest explaining your officiating goals, your personal motivation for officiating and why you merit a scholarship
- Letter of Recommendation from your PAVO Board Chair AND a PAVO National referee or a collegiate volleyball Conference Coordinator of officials

Successful scholarship winners will be notified by April 30, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded after the recipient has attended a 2015 PAVO camp.
*NOTE: You MUST register and pay for a camp in order to apply for a scholarship. Any scholarship application that is received without a specific camp registration will not be accepted. If you are not selected as a scholarship recipient and then withdraw from the camp, the refund policy applies. The refund policy states that any paid registrant who withdraws from a camp will only receive a 100% refund if PAVO is able to find a replacement camper for that spot. If no replacement camper can be found, you will receive a 50% refund, and the other 50% of the paid fee can be applied to a future camp, dependent on availability.
