PAVO Referee and Line Judge Training Camps
Since 2002, PAVO has hosted referee and line judge training camps that are designed to elevate our cadre's officiating skills in a hands-on, engaging, and supportive environment. Our training camps provide the opportunity for officials to refine their craft both on the court and in an educational, classroom setting, receiving expert guidance and personalized training from some of the nation's top collegiate volleyball officials.
Held each spring across a range of tournament settings, PAVO training camps are designed to meet the needs and aspirations of officials at every stage of their career. These camps are more than just practice—they're a challenge and an opportunity. Participants are encouraged to stretch their abilities, develop new techniques, and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of collegiate volleyball officiating. Geographic diversity and exposure to a variety of competition levels help enhance the learning experience. By providing access to high levels of play and offering invaluable learning tools and resources, our camps empower participants to take the next step in their collegiate officiating journey.
Selecting the PAVO Camp That's Right for You!
PAVO camps provide participants with the opportunity to:
- Achieve professional growth and development!
- Gain collegiate officiating experience in an exciting environment!
- Make new connections and work with officials from different areas of the country!
- Receive expert instruction and feedback from our most experienced collegiate volleyball leaders—National Coordinators, Conference Coordinators, and national-level referees and line judges!
- Be immersed in a one-of-a-kind experience filled with fun, camaraderie, and abundant learning opportunities!
REFEREE CAMPS are offered at three different levels (Advanced Referee Camps, Collegiate Referee Camps, and Referee Camps), and they are designed to reflect the respective experience and skill level of the participants. All referee camps include a specialized classroom training session and live, on-court training on the evening before the tournament, as well as the opportunity to work as both a first referee and a second referee on tournament play day.
LINE JUDGE CAMPS are offered at two different levels (Advanced Line Judge Camps and Line Judge Camps), and they are designed to reflect the respective experience and skill level of the participants. Both line jude camp types include a specialized classroom training session and live, on-court training on the evening before the tournament, as well as the opportunity to work live matches on tournament play day.
All camp participants receive real-time, in-match feedback from our experienced camp staff, ensuring immediate insight and growth on the court. In addition, staff members conduct comprehensive post-match debriefs designed to reinforce learning, refine techniques, and introduce new perspectives that help elevate each participant's officiating skill set. At Advanced Referee Camps, Collegiate Referee Camps, and Advanced Line Judge Camps, matches are video recorded with live commentary from the camp staff. Participants at these camps receive a keepsake USB drive containing their match footage, providing a valuable resource for continued development beyond the camp experience. Upon completion of a camp, participants may choose to have their performance evaluations shared with the recipients of their selecting (e.g., a conference coordinator, an assignor, or a PAVO board chair), helping support their advancement within the collegiate officiating community.
2026 PAVO Camps
Prospective camp attendees — please visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page!
Enacted in 2025, camp attendance is now limited to one camp type per person (e.g., one referee camp (any level) and/or one line judge camp (any level) per person during each camp season). PAVO strives to continually grow and expand our camp program. However, feasible camp sites can be difficult to obtain. Spots at camps are limited and fill up very quickly (sometimes within just 24 hours). PAVO's goal with this new policy is to maximize access to camp opportunities for as many officials as possible.

Discovery and Next Gen Training Camps
Since 2002, PAVO has offered training camps for volleyball referees and line judges, grounded in a longstanding commitment to building meaningful professional connections. By bringing together diverse perspectives, experiences, and ideas, PAVO fosters collaboration and growth while promoting environments rooted in acceptance, civility, and respect for the rights, identities, and beliefs of every individual.
Discovery and Next Gen Training Camps represent the evolution of a multi-year initiative launched by PAVO in 2022 in partnership with different NCAA Conferences and their respective Conference Coordinators. United by a shared vision, these collaborators seek to expand access to training and exposure in areas where opportunities have traditionally been limited. Conducted in partnership with a sponsoring Conference Coordinator, these camps complement PAVO’s traditional training camp programming, with a focused emphasis on recruiting, developing, and advancing individuals from historically underrepresented or marginalized groups.
These camps cultivate an open and welcoming environment that values individuality and encourages personal and professional growth. Participation is by invitation only through a nomination and application process generated via formal outreach to Conference Coordinators and Assignors, PAVO Affiliated Board Chairs, and USA Volleyball Referee Chairs. If you are interested in attending or sponsoring a PAVO Discovery or Next Gen Training Camp and would like more information, please reach out to the PAVO Camp Director, Breanna Spain, at camp.director@pavo.org.

Refund Policy
If you are unable to attend a camp for which you have registered, PAVO will make every attempt to fill your spot with a replacement participant. Camp Scholarships
PAVO Training Camps have been highly successful in helping develop the quantity and quality of our cadre of officials across the nation. In support of this cause is the availability of camp scholarships. Scholarship funds are awarded to deserving officials to help offset the expenses associated with camp attendance (usually, the registration fee is covered in full).
Scholarship Application Process — Any PAVO member who attends a camp and is in good standing with their board may apply for a camp scholarship. The application and recommendation forms are submitted electronically. Please send any questions about the scholarship application process to the PAVO Camp Director, Breanna Spain.
